There are a lot of similarities to The Outsiders movie and The Outsiders book. One similarity from the movie and the book is that Cherry told Ponyboy “It's rough all over”. Another similarity is that in the movie Ponyboy says the same poem (nothing gold can stay), just like he said in the book. Also, in the movie the Socs jumped Ponyboy and Johnny by the fountain in the park, and the Socs drown Ponyboy. Another similarity is, in the movie Johnny says the same thing to Ponyboy, “I killed him Pony”, and Johnny also kills him with a knife because the Socs were drowning Ponyboy (as he claims), (just like in the book). The last similarity the book and the movie have (even though they have way more) is that Johnny died when Dally and Ponyboy was in the hospital talking to him, and Dally died because of the gunshots from the cops. Those are the similarities that the Outsiders book and movie have.
There are some differences to The Outsiders movie and The Outsiders book. One difference is that in the book Ponyboy describes Johnny as white/pale, but in the movie Johnny is tan. Another difference is that in the movie it shows that Darry, Sodapop, and Ponyboy’s parents died in a train accident, but in the book Ponyboy says that their parents died in a car crash. Also, in the book Ponyboy says that Darry slapped him then he ran away, but in the movie Darry actually pushed him then he ran away. Another difference is that in the book Ponyboy says that before Johnny and Dally come in the church they do a whistle that the Greasers do to basically let each other know that it's them, but in the movie they don't do that. Also, in the book when Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally were in the hospital after the fire, there were reporters that talked/tried to talk to Ponyboy at the hospital, but in the movie after they went to the hospital, Darry and Sodapop picked Ponyboy up and took him straight to their house without talking to any reporters. The last difference from the book and the movie is that: in the book Two-bit and Ponyboy talked to Johnny’s mom in the hospital, but in the movie, they just mentioned they Johnny’s mom was there but Two-bit and Ponyboy didn't see or talk to her. Those are the differences that the Outsiders book and movie have.
The director for the movie did a pretty good job. I liked the people who played the characters, but they could have did better on their acting. But the movie was back in the day and the maybe that's how they were supposed to act. I really like the movie and the book but I would just say for my liking I like the book a tad better because it had more detail in it. But I also really like the movie because they acted the scenes out and they did it good. That's what I think about the director and the actors of the movie.
