My Kentucky Trip

The thing I am excited about this quarter is my Kentucky trip. I am going to Kentucky in 2 weeks. I am excited about that because my mom rented a house for us to stay in and some of my friends from my team is staying with us too. We are going to stay in Kentucky for 3 days. The reason why I am going to Kentucky is because I have a 2 day basketball tournament there. I play for a 8th grade team and a 8th/9th grade team but in the same league. We are going to play at least 3 games in this tournament for each team. So I will probably be playing 6 or more games that weekend. I will probably be tired but it’s okay because basketball is my life and it’s my passion to be playing it, so it’s worth it. Some of my teammates are staying in a hotel or in another house. One of my friends rented a really big house where a lot of my teammates are staying and I might stay there a night and that’s gonna be really fun. I might go to the hotel where some of my other friends are staying and we could go to the pool after our games. I have never been to Kentucky before so it will be a cool experience to see what’s out there. That is why my Kentucky trip is the thing that is making me most excited for the end of the quarter.

Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

“Everything Everything” by Nicola Yoon is the #1 New York Times best seller! I can see why it is because it is now my favorite book, (other then the book “Wonder” by R.J Palacio). The genre of the book is young adult fiction.“Everything Everything” is about a girl named Madeline Whittier who has a rare disease where basically she is allergic to the world. She hasn’t left her house in 17 years and the only people who are allowed to go in her house is obviously her, her mom, and her nurse Carla. Maddie’s brother and father died when she was young, so it has only been her and her mom for all these years. Maddie had the same routine everyday, until one day a new family moved in next door. Maddie sees this boy named Olly and she is sure she is going to fall in love with him but she knows it is going to be a disaster. This book is is 306 pages long and it has short chapters. A unique detail about the book is that it has pictures in them from the movie, drawn out pictures, and the text messaging from when her and Olly text. That is my favorite part about the book because when you are reading it you feel like you are in the book because you have a visual representation and you feel like you see what Maddie sees. I really hope by reading this, you will get this book because it has some twists, turns, and surprising moment in it that will get you at the edge of your seat. How would you feel if you were as sick as Maddie?

Gracefully Grayson by Ami Polonsky

Have you ever kept a huge secret about yourself that if you told anyone it would change your life? Well if you have/are keeping a big secret you are just like Grayson. “Gracefully Grayson” is about a boy who has always imagined that he is a girl on the inside but was just born into the wrong gender’s body. Grayson is in 6th grade and he doesn’t have many friends. He sits in the library for lunch by himself and when he gets home he goes straight into his room. Grayson has had a terrible life already with his parents in an accident that led them to death, him having friends that uses him, and him holding this huge secret. Grayson joins a play at his school and auditions for a girl character. Does Grayson get the part? Does he ever tell his huge secret? You will have to see by reading this amazing book. (In case you were wondering, the genre of this book is fiction). I really like this book because the author wrote it about identity, self-esteem, and friendships. Your identity, self-esteem, and your friendships in life are very important and I think this author is saying to be yourself no matter what and good things will come along the way. Yes, some bad things might happen while you are being yourself, but it’s who you are and no one can change that. I hope by reading this blog you will read the book “Gracfully Grayson” by Ami Polonsky because it is an incredible book and I promise you will LOVE IT! So, by reading this, will you read the book “Gracefully Grayson?”

My Word For The Year

My word for the year 2018 is determination. I chose this word because all of my goals for this year has to do with being determined. This word connects to my life because I am determined to work harder in basketball so I can get better. I am determined to get good grades. I am determined to do my homework. I am determined about a lot of other things too, but there are too many to say I just wanna make sure I’m movating myself to do my best at everything and work hard. The word determination relates with friends because I want to motivate them to do the right thing. Also I am determined to keep them being positive and keeping negativity away. My word means that in my life I will do the things I want to do and push forward to keep doing it, and it even means that I will do the things that I don’t want to do but I have to get done. Living my word in 2018 will change my life by me doing what I really like to do so then I can be good at it now and be good in the future. The specific steps I will take to live my word are changing my mindset to not giving up easily and to work hard. I will hold myself accountable with my word by having my word in different places that reminds me to be determined about the things I do. Determination is my word for the year of 2018 and that is why it is for me and why I chose it.
